Bluegrass, breweries, and festivals!
What: Santa Fe’s hottest new group
Where: Like it says on the left…
When: As often as possible
Why: because it’s BLUEGRASS!
Testimonial – “My wife and I really, really enjoyed listening to you folks. You all are the genuine article; great harmonies, super tight, a bass player who not only keeps perfect time but plays with melody, a guitarist just as at ease playing rhythm as snapping off lovely leads, and the banjo and mandolin work were both just excellent. Not to mention the effortless rapport you all have going on. Great music for a sunny afternoon. I could hear all kinds of old rhythms and leads popping back up in my head and it was impossible to keep my foot from tapping.”
Check out a couple videos from the band!
1. James Horn
James Horn has been playing five-string banjo since 1974, starting in Bellingham, Washington. He has had the privilege of tutoring closely with Peter Schwimmer and Herb Pedersen, and taken many valuable workshops with Tony Trischka, Alan Munde, Bill Keith, Eric Weissberg, and Butch Robins. His playing is solid and lively, while incorporating chromatic and syncopated methods. James has played in numerous bluegrass and new acoustic bands, and has won banjo contests in Washington and New Mexico. He has shared the stage with Herb Pedersen, Bill Keith and recorded a session for Roy Head in Nashville, TN.
2. David Thom
David Thom plays exciting bluegrass mandolin and provides great lead and tenor singing. David has a passion for music that comes across in his playing, with an exceptional ability to create inspired, engaging music from traditional to contemporary. He recently has moved from Sonoma, CA to Santa Fe, NM in March of 2017. He played with the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience in the late 90’s, and has recorded with Laurie Lewis, Peter Rowan, Don Rigsby and Ry Cooder, among others. He is a founding member of Grateful Bluegrass Boys, Vintage Grass, and The David Thom Band. He also performs regularly with the Bill Hearne Trio.
3. Zeke Severson
Zeke Severson is a veteran of the New Mexico and Texas Americana scene. He is the bassist for both Hearne’s (Bill and Michael), in the Bill Hearne Trio and in South by Southwest, the band that started the festival. He is a seeker of the good notes and tone, and we’re thrilled to have him in the group. He plays bass and sings.
4. Ross Scroggins
Ross Scroggins is one of New Mexico’s premier flat-pickers. He comes from a musical family, has been playing guitar since he was a kid, and provides lead vocals on some of his favorite songs.
